Gig Ready Barry
Free workshops and talent showcase for Barry musicians to get Gig Ready
Barry’s music scene is turning up the volume! Budding musicians aged 15 and over are invited to take their talent from the bedroom to the stage with Gig Ready Barry, a new programme offering free workshops and live performance opportunities.
Funded by Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods, and delivered by Mack Events in partnership with Bro Radio, Gig Ready Barry kicks off with a talent showcase evening at View 62 on Sunday 16 November, where emerging artists have the chance to perform live and get noticed.
After the showcase, participants will dive into a series of sessions led by professional musicians, producers and industry experts, covering everything from stagecraft and songwriting, to recording and promotion.
Matt Blumberg, founder of GlastonBARRY and chair of the Barry Together action group for Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods, said:
“As someone who’s grown up in Barry, I’ve always wanted to find new ways to encourage young performers to get up on stage, build their confidence, learn the craft and create music.
“Gig Ready Barry is more than just an open mic night, it’s a long-term project to support young performers with the confidence, writing, recording and releasing music, interviewing and more.”
Gig Ready Barry is part of Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods, a 10-year regeneration programme investing £2 million a year to build a brighter future for the town. Following a hugely successful recruitment campaign, residents have joined five action groups focused on key priorities for Barry. The action groups have started developing project ideas in readiness for when the UK Government funding starts in April.
