If you have a great idea for a project we would like to hear from you. We are interested in funding projects that will make Barry a better place now and for the future.

£20 million sounds like a lot of money, but over 10 years it will quickly be spent. We need to focus on projects that meet a real need, are sustainable (i.e. could keep going on their own without further funding) or have long term impact, and which have wide support from the community.

Projects need to meet at least one of these 5 aims:

  1. People feel safer in Barry
  2. People are active in, and proud of their community
  3. Young people can fulfil their potential
  4. People have vibrant places to shop, work and enjoy
  5. People have access to quality jobs

Also consider whether your project would contribute to one of these long-term outcomes:

  1. The gap between different areas of Barry in terms of health & wellbeing and access to services and facilities will be lessened. People across Barry will have the same chances to meet others and learn new things. There will be support to help communities grow and improve in the future.
  2. Barry’s streets and parks will be cleaner, well maintained, with more attractive routes for walking, which will encourage more people to walk and use their local amenities.
  3. Barry will feel safer for everyone. Anti-social behaviour (ASB) will happen less often and public spaces will be safer due to more activity and footfall. There will be places for young people to go, and they will be able to take part in activities they enjoy.
  4. The town centre will have more types of shops and fewer empty shops. More things will be open in the evening, and more people will use the town centre for shopping and leisure.
  5. Young people will have more choices for jobs and careers. They will be able to get training and qualifications and there will be clear routes into work. More young people will feel positive about staying in Barry after school or university.
