Over 100 Barry residents step up to shape £2 million a year Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods.
Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods has received an overwhelming response from residents, with over 100 applications submitted with the aim to make a long-term, positive difference to the town.
The successful applicants will form five action groups that will generate creative and practical project ideas to tackle the issues that matter most to people in Barry: improving public safety, increasing opportunities for young people, helping local businesses to thrive, supporting community led initiatives, and bringing communities together.
Barry is one of five towns in Wales selected to receive major investment of £2 million each year for 10 years from the UK Government, through its Plan for Neighbourhoods initiative.
The Chair of the Barry Plan for Neighbourhoods Board, local resident and former CEO of Admiral Group David Stevens, said,
“It’s great to get so many volunteers on board to help us make the right choices for the long-term well-being of the town.”
Whilst this round of recruitment for action group members has closed, applications to join an action group in the future are welcomed. An ideal group member will have personal experience and understanding of the issues the action group is focusing on, either through their personal life or through work.
Comments and ideas from individuals, businesses or organisations in Barry are welcome at any time.
